The Lovely Miss A – Class of 2011

No, it’s not too early to be thinking about your senior portraits! In fact, I’m willing to bet the you’ve already been given your appointment with the yearbook photographer (at least those of you who HAVE to use the school photographer for drape/tux) shots. But even for you lucky students who are free to choose your photographer, NOW is the time to be scheduling. Here in Virginia, it’s been a lovely May. But you KNOW this lovely weather won’t last all summer long. And do you really want to be doing those beautiful outdoor portraits when it’s a bajillion degrees and humidity is at 99.99%?

We had great weather for Miss A’s photos, even if the sun never did shine. It was a pleasant temperature and not so bright that she was squinting. She selected to use a country/natural setting for her session. I love that she brought a hat to compliment the wardrobe looks!

As we wandered the farm, we found multiple locations, including a field of yellow flowers. YEAH!

Young Me / Now Me

If you’ve not seen the website for Young Me / Now Me – check it out – it’s a hoot! So last weekend, when we had the privilege of kidnapping one of my daughter’s long time friends (they met in pre-school!) we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to create our own young me / now me. The premise is that you recreate a photo from your childhood, as best you can. The back story here is that the girls were being rather quiet – and for these two, that’s not normally an issue, but when I saw how beautifully they had applied their make-up – I knew it needed to be memorialized in a photo. See how proud they are of their blush application!?! And yes, that is blush and yes, they used the entire thing. We tried to find the reddest blush possible, but sadly, bright red blush is no longer in style. So we did the best we could. I present… A & A. Young Me / Now Me style.

Another little thing about the girls – unintentionally, Miss A’s mother and I would buy them matching outfits. We lost track of how many times they showed up in the same outfit, only different colours. In our defense, we lived on a small island with few stores to choose from, so most kids were wearing the same outfits from Old Navy! But we would laugh at their constant matching – so we recreated that too. For old times sake, same outfits – different colours.

And since we were out, we did Miss A’s senior portraits too… and why not. It was a gorgeous weekend, I had kidnapped her for the entirety of it so we could wander for hours torturing her with wardrobe changes and different locations.

Those in the local Fredericksburg area may recognize the daffodils that bloom on the sides of the train station each year. And if you know either of the Miss A’s – ask them the funny story that goes with this pic! Just ask them about “a pile of bricks”.

Proof that she does smile and she was NOT there completely under duress. Having her portraits made isn’t Miss A’s idea of a good time, but I think even she will admit that it wasn’t nearly as bad as she expected it to be!

Time FLIES!

WOW! Where has the time gone? I can hardly believe that February is more than half over, and as hard as it is to believe considering we are expecting even more snow today… spring WILL be here very very soon. And then graduation and summer and college and and and!

For our family, the “and” includes a move to the west coast. We are excited to be moving to the Whidbey Island, Washington area, but also sad to leave Fredericksburg, which has been our home for the past five years. So if you’ve been waiting to have your senior pictures done when the spring flowers and weather have arrived – NOW is the time to book your session. I’ve created a calendar showing which dates will be best for spring sessions. Please note that being green, does NOT mean the date is still available, just that these are the dates that I am still WORKING, in Virginia.

Notice that May 1st is the LAST day that I will be SHOOTING… this way I can be sure to have your images processed, printed and delivered before I depart. Of course, should the house not sell in a timely manner and I expect to be here longer, I will amend this calendar – but as of right now… this is IT! Oh, and if you want snow pics – I’m booking now too… the green is just when the flowers SHOULD be starting to show their pretty faces and the trees will start to green.

Miss {S} | Stafford, Virginia Senior Portrait Photography

Well, this is first for me… a sneak peek with all black and white images! But the beautiful Miss S is a “huge fan” of black and whites so I transformed a good portion of her session into dramatic black and whites. Well, I have to throw one colour image in because Miss S and her mom (and dad too!) were great sports when I asked them to drive to the other side of the state so we could get some pics with the Mustang convertible she and her dad have been lovingly restoring for the past two years. OK, so not quite to the other side of the state, but I’m sure it felt like it at the time! But I had searched long and hard for a field of yellow flowers without telephone polls or other power lines cutting through it, cars or buildings in the background. Thanks for spending your evening with me and enjoy your preview!

She’s baaaaaack!

I had an amazing trip and have spent the past week recovering! But the trees are blooming, the bulbs are flowering, the sky is blue (ok, sometimes!) and spring is definitely here. It’s time to get senior season into full gear.
