It was with great pride and yes, a lot of crying, that I watched as my own Baby Girl, graduated from high school. It hardly seems possible that my once, not so tiny baby, is now preparing to head off to college in the fall. We are now looking forward to when you graduate as a UW Husky – mostly because it means we won’t have to send tuition payments any longer! Many thanks to her family and friends who were able to attend the graduation and celebrate at lunch with us. We wish we could have had a large celebration for her, but we were living in a hotel, having sold our home… and early the next morning, we began our drive across the country to Coupeville, Washington.

And of course, we had to celebrate by piercing her nose – something she has wanted for years, but which was prohibited by her high school.

I couldn’t even wait long enough to remove the fold creases when theses came in… had to drag my daughter down to the studio for some test shots. WOWZERS!!! How cool are these?

WOW! Where has the time gone? I can hardly believe that February is more than half over, and as hard as it is to believe considering we are expecting even more snow today… spring WILL be here very very soon. And then graduation and summer and college and and and!

For our family, the “and” includes a move to the west coast. We are excited to be moving to the Whidbey Island, Washington area, but also sad to leave Fredericksburg, which has been our home for the past five years. So if you’ve been waiting to have your senior pictures done when the spring flowers and weather have arrived – NOW is the time to book your session. I’ve created a calendar showing which dates will be best for spring sessions. Please note that being green, does NOT mean the date is still available, just that these are the dates that I am still WORKING, in Virginia.

Notice that May 1st is the LAST day that I will be SHOOTING… this way I can be sure to have your images processed, printed and delivered before I depart. Of course, should the house not sell in a timely manner and I expect to be here longer, I will amend this calendar – but as of right now… this is IT! Oh, and if you want snow pics – I’m booking now too… the green is just when the flowers SHOULD be starting to show their pretty faces and the trees will start to green.

YIKES! It occurred to me the other day that I have utterly neglected my blogs. Funny how the holidays can throw a big ol’ monkey wrench into the best laid plans. So today is a two-for… as I had the privilege of shooting the senior portraits of one my daughter’s oldest friends. The girls met in 5th grade and in spite of many military moves, have found themselves living in close proximity once again. It’s one of the reasons we never say “good-bye” but rather… “see you later” in our dealings with other military families.

And as I was getting ready to post pics for Miss D, it occurred to me that I never even posted my own daughter’s portraits on the blog. Not that she needed a sneak peak, but still! So I’ll start with a fun pic of the girls many moons ago. Halloween, in Newport, Rhode Island.So that was before – and this is now! Miss D…

And yes, my lucky daughter had her senior pics done in the UK… pics here are mostly done in London.

And just because it’s fun – one of the two of them together when we were taking Miss D’s pics!

Life got a little busy and senior portraits just weren’t at the top of the priority list last year for Mr. M… but there’s no time like the present and it’s never too late to get your senior portraits done. Well, if you’re pushing middle age, maybe wait for the other type of senior portraits, lol. I’m so glad I asked Mr. M how tall he is – he’s 6’6″! I’m usually taller than my clients so I grabbed a step stool and off we went. First in search of some wonderful fall colour and then out and about around downtown. He was a great sport as my “reflector holder” and I gave him a particularly hard time about his “dark washed” jeans. Enjoy your sneak peek and I’ll be in touch soon when your proofs are ready.

With the hectic schedule that the stunning Miss S keeps, we quickly shot the yearbook image a few weeks ago – then scheduled the fun shooting for this week. Well, the timing couldn’t have been better! Fall colour, warm scarves, beautiful light and not too hot! Oh, and I got to use my “new” chair. We drug the chair into alleys and fields with beautiful leaves. Thanks for trekking around town with me and my “reflector holder”. Lil’ Miss A was to come for her senior portrait session last week but it was raining, cold and all around yucky! Well, what a blessing in disguise as this week the trees have turned, the air was crisp and clear – simply gorgeous weather for trekking around Fredericksburg to do senior pictures! Miss A is not only beautiful – but talented! She brought her violin for some dramatic shots under the train station – the way the sound filled the space down there – heaven! If only she had played a bit more – she could have made money that day! Maybe next time! Until then – enjoy your sneak peek!

Where in Virginia is – willowdawn photography?

Ok, try not to choke on my nerd dust but Where in the World is Carmen San Diego is one of the few kids shows, I actually liked… so now reread the title like you’re singing the song… it sort of works, right?

I just got a spodey-odey new decal for the back of my car and thought it would be fun to play a bit of Where in Virginia is willowdawn photography? Hey, I warned you about the nerd dust! So if you see me around town in my cute little Prius – snap a pic with your phone or any other camera you have handy and email it to me. I’ll send you a coupon for your choice of free item! Oh, and please don’t get all daredevilish and try to do this whilst driving! And a pic of my car in my driveway doesn’t count! I’ll give you a couple of hints as to where you might find me. I don’t shop at the mall – but I seem to live at Costco. I’d keep my eyes open around Wegmans too! Oh and I ALWAYS park near the cart corral. Always. I attend church in the Massaponax area so Sunday’s I’d keep an eye out around there!

How’s this for contrast? Miss J also loves black and white photography, but arrived with a selection of BRIGHT clothes – so we played up on those! But don’t worry my dear, I’ve transformed some black and white too! Miss J and I had a great time wandering downtown Fredericksburg, looking for bright spots… think we found some! Dad was a trooper and hung with us too! Check out Miss J’s STUNNING eyes! Holy guacamole girl. Gorgeous.
